Tetra ethyl ortho silicate – COUPSYL® TEOS

Tetra ethyl ortho silicate (TEOS) is a colorless, flammable, and toxic liquid with low viscosity and a pungent ethanol-like odor. It belongs to the alkoxy silane family with four ethoxy groups, dissolves in alcohols and common solvents, and hydrolyzes with moisture to form silica powder and ethanol. TEOS is a basic chemical widely used across pharmaceutical, petrochemical, oil and gas, foundry, and other industries

Frequently asked

questions

Find clear answers to common questions about application, performance, and technical details so you can choose with confidence.

What is tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) primarily used for?

TEOS is mainly used in corrosion-resistant coatings, catalysts, silicone production, and synthesis of doped silica sol-gels and mesoporous silica layers.

TEOS is a colorless liquid with a melting point of -77°C and a boiling point of 165.5°C. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in ethanol and ether.

It is used as an insulating material, optical glass processing agent, coagulant, binder for precise sand casting molds, anti-corrosion and waterproofing treatment for metals, and raw material for silicone oils.
